High Artist Spotlight - Asukwo Effiom

Asukwo Bassey Effiom was born 1995 in Kaduna state of Nigeria, hails from Nsit Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. Passed through Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja in his early education stages, graduated from the department of Fine and Industrial Arts, University of Uyo, with a bachelor's degree (painting major) in 2018.
He is an Afrocentric Nigerian painter who excels in the use of color fluxibility and the art of transforming natural human forms to abstracted form with signs and symbols. He explores the unlimited potentiality of chromatic texture and tonal scales, visual planes and volume within a two-dimensional framework. His themes are tired to feminism (treating them equal in the society), African traditional beliefs,music and fashion.
We recently caught up with Asukwo after High Art 2022 to learn more about his most recent inspirations:
Where do you find your creative inspiration?
Culture, life settings and happenings, women and Africa
Why do you do what you do?
I want a world that is free from the impurities caused by corrupt individuals. I just want the best for humanity. The best relationships in gender, tribe, religion, background, sex and other areas.
What art/artist do you most identify with?
I actually identify with anything that is done in a pleasant manner, irrespective of the art stlye of an artist, the moment you have an aim and problem to solve I'm good.
What themes do you pursue the most?
Culture, fashion, ethics, music, feminism, sociocultural....
What role does an artist have in society?
An artist to me is gifted with the tool of creativity not just to make beautiful arts and decorations, but he is a problem solver, a prophet, a teacher and an activists.
What is your artistic outlook on life?
There is certainly a time for everyone and everything. So respect people and exalt them when they are successful, tomorrow might be you
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Be focused and keep doing it the best way.
Do you listen to music while you are creating? If yes, tell us your favorite song and artist.
Yes I do listen to music! My favourite song is not really defined as I listen to any good genre of music. But if must choose, I'll chose any of Bob Marleys songs
What's the best thing about being an artist?
For me, I live in my own world of supernatural

Having an art school where world changing individuals grow
