High Artist Spotlight: Benangbaja

Benangbaja is an illustrator based in Indonesia. His artwork visuals are inspired by comic visual style. He is interested in space and alien theme. He’s been to an artist exchange in Australia for Yirrkala-Artist Exchange Program and to several exhibitions both domestically and abroad.

Where do you find your creative inspiration?

I always get inspiration from the environment around me. The social, cultural, and natural aspects.

Why do you do what you do?

Because I love to draw. Even if I'm not doing anything, I will always think about drawing.

What art/artist do you most identify with?

Kim Jung Gi and Andy Warhol

What themes do you pursue the most?

Trippy, Fantasy, and Natural Art

What role does an artist have in society?

As a good communication intermediary to society. Can convey what is difficult to say in words through art.

What is your artistic outlook on life?

Human life cannot be separated from art. The human soul is very close to art.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

No advice whatsoever for the past. You have traveled a wonderful journey. Keep going!
