High Artist Spotlight: Benangbaja

Benangbaja is an illustrator based in Indonesia. His artwork visuals are inspired by comic visual style. He is interested in space and alien theme. He’s been to an artist exchange in Australia for Yirrkala-Artist Exchange Program and to several exhibitions both domestically and abroad.

Q: Where do you find your creative inspiration?

A: "From comic, movie, or other things around me."

Q: Why do you do what you do?

A: "Because I like what I do. I never get bored when I’m drawing and I always amazed by other artists with their shape or personal statement from their artwork."

Q: What art/artist do you most identify with?

A: "I’d love to see Junji Ito’s work and Kim Jung Gi style and another comic or manga things."

Q: What role does an artist have in society?

A: "To express freedom"

Q: What is your artistic outlook on life?

A: "Life cannot be separated by art, because art is part of life itself. Art in life have been influencing each other for a long time. I think everything in life is a work of art.

Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?

A: "You can do better than what you do now"
