High Artist Spotlight: George Hociung

Thirty years ago he became another human being on this planet, born to observe, to see. His art came as a need to say out loud what and how he sees things. George Hociung considers himself a self-taught artist, even if he graduated from both a high school of art, and art college. His work of painting largely is constructed as a symbolic-surreal world, were elements make up a metaphor for the real world. For him art, like life itself is a journey, with lots of thing's to descover and explore. So... Let's make this journey together.
We recently caught up with George after High Art 2022 to learn more about his most recent inspirations:
-
Where do you find your creative inspiration?
I find inspiration in looking at the world, at people's life and they're actions. If we were not so violent, it would be very funny to live here!
-
Why do you do what you do?
For me painting is a need. A meditation process meybe?
-
What art/artist do you most identify with?
Can't say one
-
What themes do you pursue the most?
Mostly simple themes, life inspired.
-
What role does an artist have in society?
To give an out of the box perspective about what it is.
-
What is your artistic outlook on life?
Well, I do consider life a journey, and I think it should be a pleasant one even if we are struggling. As I see it, the important thing is to observe what it is, rather then live by preconceived ideas and traditions. Humans can be happy, can live happy of all want to. We really should allow ourself to dream eyes opened.
-
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Calm yourself and watch!
-
Do you listen to music while you are creating? If yes, tell us your favorite song and artist.
Yes I do listen to music, but I can't say one song or even artist. Sometimes I just navigate between songs and styles, other time I listen the same song for couple of days.
-
What's the best thing about being an artist?
The freedom you get from observing things.
-
What is your dream project?
A life well spent. I don't separate my professional life from personal, and I think for artists this is impossible. I can't name one dream project, other then this.
