High Artist Spotlight: Jayavanth Shettigar

Born in Manipal, Karnataka, India 1970, Jayavanth Shettigar is a self-taught artist. He has experimented with media, using rich symbols and textures. Just beyond language, his process of creation is natural. He believes "nature's observation is the best way to create artworks.
We recently caught up with Jayavanth after High Art 2022 to learn more about his most recent inspirations:
Where do you find your creative inspiration?
Western ghats. South India.
Why do you do what you do?
I believe in a very simple philosophy of life. If I am honest and true to my art, I will reach the devine.
What art/artist do you most identify with?
Paul Klee.
What themes do you pursue the most?
Nature.
What role does an artist have in society?
Artists give thoughtful critique to the society.
What is your artistic outlook on life?
Simplicity.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Learn to wait. There is always time for everything.

What's the best thing about being an artist?
There is no better experience and satisfaction, as in creating artworks.
