High Artist Spotlight: John Biggs

John Biggs is a U.K. based illustrator that uses his narrative talents to explore varying cultures and backdrops. His work moves between sci-fi intrigue and mystery and snapshots from the everyday.
We recently caught up with John after High Art 2022 to learn more about his most recent inspirations:

Where do you find your creative inspiration?
Everywhere and anywhere! I love music, old movies, ancient cultures and modern artists!

Why do you do what you do?
I draw every day - making comics, illustrating for magazines and working with musicians on merch and posters.

What art/artist do you most identify with?
I love traditional illustration and comic book art - especially stuff with a lot of pattern and dynamic movement!

What themes do you pursue the most?
The human experience, history and culture.

What role does an artist have in society?
Artists are the gatekeepers of inspiration, whether you’re cooking a meal, coding a computer script or designing a building, everyone is subconsciously informed by the creative culture of our societies artist communities .

What is your artistic outlook on life?
Keep learning, keep making mistakes, keep making work!

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Go with what feels right every time, only make the work that you want to make.

Do you listen to music while you are creating? If yes, tell us your favorite song and artist.
At the moment i’m going through a big Yung Lean phase - his new track “Bliss” with FKA twigs is a banger.

What's the best thing about being an artist?
Freedom!

What is your dream project?
This is really specific, but i’d love to do a magic the gathering card design - that would be dope!
