High Artist Spotlight: Lisa Wilson

Lisa Wilson is an illustrator and graphic designer residing in Montreal, Canada. She began illustrating in Toronto during her time at OCADU, which she graduated with a Bachelor of Design from in 2014. Lisa began her career curating and collaborating and continues to embrace new challenges along her forever ongoing artistic journey. Her favorite subject matters includes plant and animal life, food and people which reflect most of her other interests as well. When Lisa is not illustrating she works with her partner in life and love on their flower and vegetable farm outside of the city.
We recently caught up with Lisa after High Art 2023 to learn more about her most recent inspirations:

 

Where do you find your creative inspiration?
Nature, science, sociology.

Why do you do what you do?
It's my favourite!

What art/artist do you most identify with?
A little Phyllis Shafer mixed with classic toon art.

What themes do you pursue the most?
Whimsical, comical, natural.

What role does an artist have in society?
Storyteller

What is your artistic outlook on life?
I don't care if it's been done before, I haven't tried it yet.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Your failures are the most important stepping stones. Have good footing but hop and have fun while you're making your way along.

What's the best thing about being an artist?
Knowing who you are and having the ability to express it.

What is your dream project?
Skate and surf deck designs (hola Santa Cruz), scientific illustration, packaging (food + bev), more murals!
