High Artist Spotlight: Lucas Valtenbergs
Lucas Valtenbergs is an illustrator living in Sonoma County California. He specializes in dark art style illustrations, black metal/ death metal band/label art and logos, but is not limited to those styles. He is a father of two, with a third child on the way. Lucas has been in the cement/plaster trades for half of his life, starting at just 17 years old. Though he has devoted so much time to the trades he has been passionate about art since a very young age, and has worked in many different mediums. Lucas is currently working toward going full time with art, his work can be viewed on Instagram @lucasvdoom.
We recently caught up with Lucas after High Art 2022 to learn more about his most recent inspirations:

Where do you find your creative inspiration?
I have a very active imagination.

Why do you do what you do?
I only do it because it’s fun, and I enjoy it. If it wasn’t fun I’d quit.

What art/artist do you most identify with?
I try not to view too much art because I don’t want to subconsciously steal anything, but I am inspired by anime, manga, traditional tattoo art, tattooing.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Commit to full time art while you are young (before you have kids)

Do you listen to music while you are creating? If yes, tell us your favorite song and artist.
I constantly listen to music, I have a big record and tape collection, I love black metal, death metal, and many other various genres!

What's the best thing about being an artist?
Winning art contests 😉. Jk jk

What is your dream project?
I just want to comfortably support my family with my art.
