High Artist Spotlight: Onirical Zubieta

Onirical Zubieta is a Spanish artist living in Bristol, UK. Zubieta’s art explores popular culture through retro and tropical references, alternative universes, and lots of characters. With them, she describes the myths and clichés of Generation Z and Millennials. She conveys the feelings and anxieties of her generation, stories of love, dreams, and technological addiction, all in a pastel and neon universe.
We recently caught up with her after High Art 2022 to learn more about her most recent inspirations:
Where do you find your creative inspiration?
in my times alone, I use creativity as a release of my own and anxiety and as a way of communicate my ideas and feelings to the world in a manner that makes me happy. When I put the drawings into paper i can contemplate my subsconscious
Why do you do what you do?
Because it gives meaning to my life
What art/artist do you most identify with?
from the past I would say my references are Hieronimus Bosch, Dali or Frida Kahlo. Nowadays I get inspiration from other creatives I see on instagram from everywhere in the world. i really like the work of KAWS, Keith HAring, and James Jean. Love to be part of a community of strong women and queer creatives which are changing the way the world thinks!
What themes do you pursue the most?
Pop culture, social media, being a female, nature and psychedelia
What role does an artist have in society?
To help people to think and feel happy, to change ideas, to bring new emotions into others lifes.
What is your artistic outlook on life?
Love what you do
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Listen to your intuition, don't be afraid to spend time alone

I like brazilian music the most, psychedelic brazilian rock like "os mutantes" is amazing, I also love Neo Soul like RH factor, and lately I am listening to the indie band from Uk " Wet Leg' . I guess i love everything. I also sing in a psychedelic cumbia band called Xaman X
What's the best thing about being an artist?
HAving the tools to express yourself in beautiful ways, being able to portrait your ideas visually
What is your dream project?
To be funded to paint traditionally big canvases for a year
