High Artist Spotlight: Shaun Beyond

Shakoor Bukhuth, aka Shaun Beyond, is a multifaceted graphic artist, illustrator, and visual concept creator, born and raised in Mauritius. He visually explores the metaphysical and psychic world, centered around alternate realities and possibilities. He creates futurist, avant-garde worlds and characters infused with mysticism.

We recently caught up with Shaun after High Art 2023 to learn more about his most recent inspirations:

Where do you find your creative inspiration?

By spending time alone with myself. The vision comes through meditation, dreams, and visions.

Why do you do what you do?

Wholeness, Fulfilment, contentment.

What art/artist do you most identify with?

Philipe Druillet and Moebius.

What themes do you pursue the most?

Retro-futurism, Mysticism, Esoteric, Afrofuturism, Psychedelia.

What role does an artist have in society?

Artists are either a reflection or a refraction of the society they live in. They can be the mirror or the magnifying glass.

What is your artistic outlook on life?

We are all creators, but some of us have just forgotten about it.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Keep going, trust the path and the process, give your best in everything you do, and never forget to have fun.

Do you listen to music while you are creating? If yes, share the song and artist that you listen to while creating art.

Music has a very prominent place in everything I create. I listen to different genres depending on the mood of the artwork. It can go from classical to electronic, jazz to heavy metal, reggae to ambient.

What's the best thing about being an artist?

Freedom of expression and fully embracing the uniqueness of one's own existence.

What is your dream project?

A fully immersive space based on the universe I am creating in my art. It would be a place where people could experience the world I am imagining in a 3D reality.
