High Artist Spotlight: Sierra Rose

Sierra is a multimedia artist and fiddle player living off the grid in the Southern Oregon wilds. She takes inspiration from years spent as a traveling street musician, as well as her construction job and the plants and wildlife that surround her.
We recently caught up with Sierra after High Art 2022 to learn more about her most recent inspirations:
-
Where do you find your creative inspiration?
It's everywhere. Probably music the most.
-
Why do you do what you do?
I try to have faith that everything is connected, that we are all here together to dance this specific dance, and not worry about it too much.
-
What art/artist do you most identify with?
On a good day? Jerry Garcia, and Robert Hunter. Also I like how Austin Osman Spare approached art and Symbolism.
-
What themes do you pursue the most?
Humility, interconnectedness, awe.
-
What role does an artist have in society?
Illuminate that which cannot be illuminated by other means.
-
What is your artistic outlook on life?
Take care of yourself so you can do your best. We don't own the art we just need to open up and let it flow through.
-
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Breathe, drink water, hug your dog. You are enough.
-
Do you listen to music while you are creating? If yes, tell us your favorite song and artist.
Sometimes. Jeff Beck, album Blow by Blow
-
What's the best thing about being an artist?
Working with other artists, when it happens
-
What is your dream project?
I love the SCRAP stores where they sell repurposed odds and ends for art projects. Something like that, but with even more community and installations, live music and a garden space.
